Movie Review : Ace filmmaker S S Rajamouli breaks from his formulaic films to dish out a laugh-riot and amply displays his flair for comedy.
He does succeed in his experiment and also raises the bar of the genre by riding on situational comedy and strictly avoids slapstick humour. After designing larger-than-life roles for superstars like NTR, Ram Charan and Ravi Teja, the young filmmaker sketches a self-piteous role for comedian-turned-hero Sunil to have audience in splits. Even the backdrop of Rayalaseema factionism tightens up the tale of a fearful lad who unknowingly steps into his enemies den. With the love track between Sunil and Saloni failing to take-off, the screenplay is loaded with protagonist's attempt to escape from his captors and that becomes tad repetitive. Interestingly, the director who relied on slaptick comedy in his star-centric movies, comes of age with this laugh-riot by stitching the comedy scenes around true-to-life situations- an ill-fated youngster, decrepit cycle and finally stepping into a death trap. However, the dichotomy of factionist family who believed in the adage of athidi devo bava but kill the guest once he steps of their threshold, lacks conviction.
Youngster Sunil rides on his decrepit bicycle to transport goods but loses the job since he delivers late every time. The depressed guy gets a courier from an MRO of the Rayalaseema region, stating that their 5-acre property is restored and he can claim it now. On the way, he befriends a pretty girl Saloni and lands up in the Rayalaseema region. He approaches a feudal lord (Nagineedu) to help him in selling his land but he gets trapped in his house, since they come to know that he is the son of the man who killed the feudal lord’s brother.
Comedian Sunil, who turned hero with Andalaramudu few years ago this time returns with another roaring comic flick and puts in a restrained performance. Saloni has nothing much to do, while Nagineedu, Brahmaji and Supreet do justice to their roles. However, a well-designed set, great cinematography and mellifluous tunes by Keeravani takes this comic caper to a different plane.

TELANGANA BY ELECTION TODAY-TRS for high poll percentage

Hyderabad, July 26: The Telangana Rashtra Samiti president, Mr K. Chandrasekhar Rao, has denied the charges of violation of the model code of conduct.
In his response to the Election Commission (EC) notice, the TRS president said he had only “highlighted” the failure of the ministers to keep their electoral promises made during the previous elections.
The Election Commission had served a notice against Mr Chandrasekhar Rao for making certain derogatory comments against the home minister, Ms P. Sabita Indra Reddy.
The TRS chief said he never intended to hurt any person. He also blamed the media for “misquoting” him with regard to his call to “accept money and liquor” from other parties but to cast vote for the TRS.
The Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), Dr I.V. Subba Rao, told mediapersons that the IT minister, Mr K. Venkata Reddy, and the former minister, Mr Md Shabbir Ali, had also submitted their replies. The EC is yet to take a decision.
Dr Rao said instructions were given not allow voters or agents with mobile phones within a 100-metre radius of the polling booths. Even the polling officials will be keeping their phones in silent mode, he said.
The CEO also said the police seized Rs 2.19 crore from people who could not account for the money they were carrying. The authorities closed 4,125 belt shops and seized 11 illicit arms manufacturing centres.
The CEO added that all the arrangements were in place for the bypolls scheduled on Tuesday.

'Khaleja' (mahesh babu)Audio in August

Even with the ‘Khaleja’ logo out, reports has it that the producers are contemplating to release the audio in August.

As Mahesh Babu has agreed to be part of ‘Provogue’, it is known that he will be inaugurating the brand’s flagship store in Vijaywada on August 14th. Sources say the audio launch of ‘Khaleja’ with music by Mani Sharma will be launched in Guntur on the 15th of August, though nothing of these reports have been confirmed.

Recall ‘Athadu’. The trio Trivikram- Mani Sharma- Mahesh Babu, created a super hit flick. The music of ‘Athadu’ was a super hit and its rerecording received a lot of applause. So with Mani Sharma teaming again with Trivikram, you can expect 'Khaleja' to be a musical hit!

Don Seenu is going to have its audio launch on July 22, 2010. The film by R. R. Movie Makers stars actor Ravi Teja and Shreya Saran in the lead roles. Directed by Gopichand Malineni, it is a typical Ravi Teja film with all commercial entertaining elements.

Producer Venkat informed that Aditya Music will launch the album of Don Setu at Taj Deccan, Hyderbad on July 22. The producer added that they will be releasing the movie in the first week of August and he hopes the film becomes a hit.


Speaking on the occasion, K. Atchi Reddy, the presenter of the movie added that a grand set was created at the Ramoji Film City, where a dance of a song will be performed by the lead pair with 30 dancers. Dance master Prem Rakshith has choreographed the dance sequence.

Speaking to the media, co-producer V. Suresh Reddy said that the movie will be completed following the shooting of climax scene from July 19 to July 25. He praised highly producer Venkat for lavishly spending on the movie.

The Real star Sri Hari will be playing an important role in the movie. Actors Bramhaji, Siyaji Shinde, Nasser and comedians Bramhanandam, Krishna Bagwan, Ali, Raghu Babu, Sunil, and others will be seen in the supporting roles. Cinematography is by Sameer Reddy and Mani Sharma is scoring the music for the movie.

The Telugu Desam party MLAs judicial custody till July 26

Dharmabad, July 19: The Telugu Desam chief, Mr N. Chandrababu Naidu, and 70-odd party MLAs including women have been remanded to judicial custody till July 26 after they refused to accept bail here on Monday.
Mr Naidu and his comrades, who were arrested for undertaking a trip to the controversial Babli project, are likely to be shifted to Aurangabad. They had been confined in a local ITI centre for the last four days.
This is the first time in history that an Opposition leader and 70 odd MLAs of one state have been detained for four days in another state and sent to jail.
With the police not willing to disclose where the TD leaders were being taken, Mr Naidu and his colleagues held a dharna in protest saying they were being harassed. Mr Naidu, who fasted during the day, collapsed due to weakness after angrily getting down the police van in protest against police failure to disclose jail destination and for carrying them in a rickety van here late night.
“Is this the way you treat a former Chief Minister, MPs and MLAs? Where is the need to take us this night,” he fumed on police.
Meanwhile, the Maharastra Chief Minister, Mr Ashok Chavan, offered to hold a joint meeting with the state on the Babli project, if the Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh desired.
He made the offer during a telephonic conversation with Chief Minister, Mr K. Rosaiah on Monday.

TRS wants Jalayagnam files seized

Oct. 12: The Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) has asked the director-general of the Anti-Corruption Bureau to seize all the documents pertaining to the engineering, procurement and construction contracts under Jalayagnam programme before the government orders a high level
probe.
According to the TRS, thousands of crores of rupees had been swindled in the irrigation projects.
The TRS president, Mr K. Chandrasekhar Rao, who has decided to intensify his campaign on the issue, sent a letter to the ACB DG, Mr K. Aravinda Rao, through the TRS floor leader, Mr Etala Rajender, Mr T. Harish Rao, and others.
“EPC contractors of irrigation produced bogus, fabricated documents regarding eligibility, bank guarantees, experience and other stipulations,” he said in the
letter. “The loss of life, property, cattle, crops, houses, movables in the recent floods is the direct result of massive fraud in the EPC contracts. The floods have caused untold misery, suffering and trauma to the people.”
The EPC system of contracts was first introduced by the former Chief Minister, Mr N. Chandrababu Naidu and was taken up by his successor, Dr Y.S. Rajasekhar Reddy to award contracts for irrigation and other projects.
In a related issue, the TRS politburo member, Mr Madhusudhana Chary, said the TRS chief, Mr K. Chandrasekhar Rao, was ready for a debate on the issue and asked the major irrigation minister, Mr Ponnala Laxmaiah to fix the date, time and venue for it.
“We will prove that it was a man-made disaster,” he said.

AP to complain against water panel chairman

Oct.12: The state government has decided to lodge a complaint with the Central government against Mr A.K. Bajaj, chairman of the Central Water Commission.
Mr Bajaj in an interview to the media was stated to have observed that the floods in the state were man-made and alleged that the government had not responded to the alerts issued by the CWC, according to top officials in the government.
“This is absolutely wrong. The CWC regional officials were with us all through the floods. They had given us inputs which proved to be wrong some times, but they were with us and even attended meetings with the Chief Minister,” said Mr S. P. Tucker, principal secretary, irrigation department.
In fact, Mr Bajaj’s interview, aired by the BBC, caused considerable embarrassment to the state government.
Taking strong objection to it, the Chief Minister, Mr Rosaiah, asked the irrigation officials to contact Mr Bajaj in this regard.
Interestingly, the state government had submitted a report to the Prime Minister when he came for an aerial survey, praising the CWC’s support during the crisis.
“On September 29, CWC’s daily alert indicated 63,000 cusecs inflow to the Srisailam whereas we received 80,000 cusecs in which 71,000 cusecs was used for power generation and to canals,” explained Mr Rehman, engineer-in-chief.
“On September 30, CWC reading indicated 1.16 lakh inflow whereas we got a report that at Jurala the inflows had already crossed 2 lakh cusecs.”
“On October 1, the CWC alerted us about 1.75 lakh cusecs and by evening upgraded that to 8.12 lakh. But we received 6.4 to 12.37 lakh cusecs from 6 am to 12 midnight.”
“On October 2, we received 22 lakh and 25 lakh cusecs as against 10.95 and 15.89 lakh cusecs predicted by the CWC,” he said.
On the direction of the CM, the irrigation department sent a detailed report on the floods to the Centre, detailing hourly inflows and discharge.

CM snaps at flood victims

Oct. 12: The Chief Minister, Mr K. Rosaiah, was irked by the persistent complaints by flood victims on Monday, so much so that he told them, “If you want compensation, take it. Otherwise I will go.”
Mr Rosaiah came face to face with angry locals throughout his tour of Nandyal in Kurnool district and Repalle and Bhattiprolu mandals in Guntur on Monday. In many spots he faced “go back” slogans.
At different places in Guntur, women repeatedly told Mr Rosaiah that they had not received any relief from the government.
Mr Rosaiah pointed out at Penumudi village that the district administration would distribute 20 kg rice, tur dal and 5 litres kerosene apart from compensation.
An angry woman then asked, “What I should with the kerosene? Should I pour it on my head?” Mr Rosaiah was so upset that he left the village.
In Nandyal, flood victims obstructed Mr Rosaiah’s convoy. They wanted him to step down from his bus to visit their colonies. They blocked the CM with slogans like “CM down down” and “CM Go back.”
In other places too, the victims wanted Mr Rosaiah to go with them to their colonies to see the pitiable conditions. Mr Rosaiah said he had come to console them and lost his cool when they persisted

Oct. 12: The Praja Rajyam leaders are worried over the lukewarm response that the party chief, Mr K. Chiranjeevi, got when he toured Krishna and Guntur districts. Flood victims in both the districts were not very keen to explain their problems to Mr Chiranjeevi.
Lack of proper planning by district leaders and failure to give wide publicity to his tour were blamed for the poor response to the programme. The party high command is reportedly upset over the lack of interest among party leaders in organising the tour.
“Many flood victims have been shifted to relief centres. Some of them have gone to the houses of their relatives. That could be one of the reasons for the moderate response to Chiranjeevi’s tour. Moreover, fans and common people are not very interested to see an actor when they are in deep trouble,” a senior leader explained.
According to sources, Chiranjeevi did not visit many districts after the general elections as the cadres were not very enthusiastic.
He participated in an agitation against the Babli irrigation project constructed by the Maharashtra government. “Local PR leaders are not keen to make arrangements for Chiranjeevi’s tour as they have to spend lavishly. They always excuse themselves if any tour is planned in their respective areas,” said a PR source.
“After the demise of Y.S. Rajasekhar Reddy, Chiranjeevi is the lone leader who can attract huge masses. His tours will be successful if they are properly planned in advance. Tours are necessary to revitalise the PR as local body elections are scheduled for next year,” another leader said.

Flawed data doomed states

Oct. 12: Irrigation experts and policy makers were dumbstruck when they found that about 14,000 square kilometres in seven districts of both Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka are not covered by rain gauging equipment.
This proved fatal in the recent floods, which surged quickly to submerge Kurnool, Mahbubnagar and Mantralayam. Some 200 mm of rain fell on September 29 alone in 7,000 square km of area below the Jurala and Roja, where no rain gauging facility is available.
This changed the complexion of the flood. The unaccounted water proceeded towards Srisailam. Twelve districts in Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra and Karnataka received 400 mm average of rainfall on four consecutive days starting from September 29. This water also joined the flow to reach the Srisailam dam. Though there are rain gauging centres at some places for the economics and statistics wing, the information is never shared with the Central Water Commission (CWC). “Unfortunately the CWC did not receive information about the flash rains and their impact on the overall inflow as it does not have rain gauging equipment downstream of Jurala and Roja,” confirmed Mr Rehman, the engineer-in-chief, irrigation department.
The CWC and state irrigation department thus got no warning of the impending flood until September 30, when it descended on them. According to the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), the rainfall received during those five days was the highest known in the country since 1901. The river Krishna has never witnessed such inflows in its known history. In 1903, the river received 10.5 lakh cusecs inflow at the Prakasam whereas in the recent floods it received 10.9 lakh cusecs over just three consecutive days.
The Srisailam dam was built to discharge 13.5 lakh cusecs maximum, but was forced to discharge 24.8 lakh cusecs of water.
What would have happened if the Srisailam and Nagarjunasagar dams and the Prakasam barrage were not there? If the 25 lakh cusec inflow was let out in the absence of these dams and barrages, most of Krishna district including Gudivada, Tenali, and Repalle towns would have been submerged. Villages near the river Krishna in Nalgonda, Mahbubnagar, and Kurnool would also have been submerged,” said a senior official in the irrigation department. The CWC’s failure to provide accurate data about the river inflow only aided nature’s fury. The CWC report given to the Kurnool Collector on October 1, at about 4 pm, sounded the alert that the Tungabhadra was set to receive an “historical flood”. However, in a report sent to the irrigation department, the CWC said that only 26,000 cusecs would reach the Tungabhadra dam.
This imperfect information proved costly to the residents of the temple town where the highest number of deaths was recorded.

TD on the mark with flood relief

Oct. 11: The leader of the Opposition, Mr N. Chandrababu Naidu, has caused the ruling party much embarrassment by being first off the mark to visit the flood affected areas and bring in relief supplies.
The man known for his managerial skills and shrewd politics is demonstrating both in his handling of the crisis.
Mr Naidu toured many districts much before the Chief Minister. He made an aerial survey of the flooded areas and even spoke to the Prime Minister and the Union Agriculture Minister and briefed them about the flood damage in the state.
Mr Naidu was the first to send relief vans sponsored by his partymen to the flood hit Kurnool and Mahbubnagar districts. Every day at least 10 vans of relief material are being flagged off by Mr Naidu from his party headquarters.
Five vans left on Sunday with relief material provided by the former Wakf board chairman, Mr Mohammad Saleem, and another five by the NTR trust. Mr Naidu has set up a 42-member team with senior leaders at his party headquarters to supervise the flood relief activity and collect donations.
“There is no other intention in my tours but to bring the attention of the government to the flood affected areas.
As the Opposition leader, my visit would naturally attract the attention of the official machinery and this will lead to victims receiving better relief,” Mr Naidu said.
Senior Congress leaders say that people are well aware that the TD chief is trying to get political mileage out of the situation.
“He is trying to act as if he is more concerned. But everybody in the state knows his real intentions,” said Mr Ambati Rambabu, a senior Congress leader

Walking Gandhi to restore books

Oct. 11: A child education support organisation has decided to take up restoration of spoiled books of students in flood-hit villages of Atmakur mandal in Kurnool district.
The Care Foundation For Children and Ageing an international NGO (CFCA) took an initiative after it was reported in this newspaper that books of lakhs of school students were spoiled in the floods.

president, Mr Bob Hentzen, also known as the “Walking Gandhi of South and
Central America” who
participated in a cultural fest here on Sunday, said: “We are sponsoring education of 3.3 lakh students across the world including Africa, Asia and South America. Hyderabad is one of the biggest projects in India. The supporters come from more than 60 countries.”
Mr Hetze, 73, who champions the cause of non-violence, had walked 6,000 km in 1996 from Kansas in the U.S. to Guatemala for nine months. Now, he will start a 14,000 km walk from Guatemala to Chile covering 12 nations from December.
The CFCA Hyderabad project executive director, Mr S. Suresh Reddy, said: “We are going to provide sustained education support. In addition to the education, we are also contributing to build houses for the flood-hit families.”

TD MLA in fake ST certificate row

Oct. 11: It is learnt that the Adilabad collector, Mr Ahmad Nadeem, has cancelled the caste certificate (ST) of Suman Rathod, Telugu Desam (TD) MLA from Khanapur (ST).
It has been alleged that she obtained an ST caste certificate through fraudulent means, though she belongs to the Banjara community which comes under the backward community in Maharashtra.
But orders have not been issued officially so far in this regard.
The collector also refused to comment on the matter.
A committee headed by joint collector, Mr Vijay Kumar, conducted an inquiry into the validity of MLA’s caste certificate and submitted a report to the collector.
Ms Suman Rathod said she had submitted enough proof to the officials concerned to prove that she had been residing in Adilabad before 1977 and had patta lands, but officials did not verify them. She made it clear that she would approach the AP High Court on the cancellation of her ST certificate and said that she had not received any orders so far regarding cancellation.
Her husband Ramesh Rathod, Adilabad MP, said a few political leaders thought the cancellation of an ST certificate of an MLA would necessitate byelections and the ruling party candidate would win in these, or else, the second leading candidate in the 2008 elections would be elected as MLA once Ms Suman Rathod was disqualified. He said that this would not happen.
Meanwhile, sources said that K. Suresh, a former tahasildar of Utnoor, who worked as PA to Mr Ramesh Rathod when he was Khanapur MLA, issued ST certificate without proper verification just on the recommendation of his staff.

Stench stalks Kurnool residents

Oct. 11: Even though it is been a week since the floods receded, many areas in Kurnool are still under knee-deep slush while sanitation personnel have been unsuccessful in clearing tonnes of garbage scattered on the roads here.
People complain that the foul smell emanating from the garbage is making their heads reel.
Gases spewed by the garbage are causing irritation in the eyes too, they said.
Despite deploying 16 municipal commissioners, 2,000 sanitation staff and machinery from other cities, the Kurnool Municipal Corporation is finding it difficult to clean the garbage that is piling up on the streets everyday.
About 50,000 houses in the old city have been affected by floods.
Flood victims, while cleaning their houses, have dumped not less than two tonnes of waste per household on the roads in the past four days.
To make matters worse, the sanitation staff are dumping garbage in the city outskirts, causing the foul smell to spread to areas in new city.
Though the floods did not cause much trouble in the new city, people here are facing health problems due to the foul smell from the dumped garbage.
“We are clearing 5,000 tonnes of garbage per day,” said Mr Vikas Raj, managing director of the AP State Financial Corporation, who is supervising sanitation activities in the town.
“We have deployed 1,800 sanitation staff and another 1,480 workers are expected to join us in a couple of days. We are trying to bring normalcy in the city within a week. To expedite the work we have deployed 175 tractors, 33 JCBs and 22 dousers,” he said about the sanitation works.
The officials also had a hard time convincing workers to take up cleaning operations as they initially refused to work due to the unbearable stench. “We can’t even stay indoors as the stench from the garbage reaches everywhere. Due to the stench, we could not eat or sleep properly for the last four days,” said Mr S.Shyamsunder, a resident of Devnagar.

KCR opts for softer line on Telangana

Oct. 11: The TRS chief, Mr K. Chandrasekar, who is known for his adamant and ruthless attitude took a ‘U’ turn on Sunday when he condemned the statements of his party leaders against the Supreme Court judgement on making Hyderabad city a free zone.
KCR criticised the TRS legislative party leader, Mr E. Rajender, for making provocative statements on the issue.
Some TRS leaders threatened violence if the government not appeal against the Supreme Court direction.
“Issuing a threat of violence is not good and it has no place in democracy. I condemn such statements. After all the making Hyderabad a free zone for certain posts is small issue when it comes to Telangana state,” said KCR.
For the first time, he announced that he always wished the state should move forward and achieve all-round development. He directed his party to exercise restraint on the sensitive issues.
A few days ago, KCR had announced that he was first a citizen of Andhra Pradesh and then a Telanganite. Sources in the party disclosed that after massive defeat in the elections and observing the support that the late had YSR garnered across the Telangana, KCR had changed his mind.
Two days ago, KCR had made an acerbic comment on the irrigation minister, Mr P. Laxmaiah, regarding the projects under constructions in the Rayalaseema region. This had led to a high-pitched political debate between Congress and TRS leaders.

CM for linking AP rivers

Oct. 8: A day after the UPA government shelved the river linking project, the Chief Minister, Mr K. Rosaiah, sang a different tune and said linking of rivers within the state could be useful.

The Congress-UPA government dumped the river linking programme, mooted by the former BJP-led NDA government, because of the AICC general secretary, Mr Rahul Gandhi’s vigorous opposition to it.

Mr Gandhi had said recently that the river linking programme was unwise and would create more harm than good. Following Mr Gandhi’s cue, the Union environment minister, Mr Jairam Ramesh, had said the other day that the NDA-authored project was being dropped since it would cause a “human, economic and ecological disaster.”

However, Mr Rosaiah, who is in favour of river linking in the state, said that the young Congress leader might have been talking about linking of rivers across the country. “He may be referring to Ganga-Cauvery project which would benefit some states and harm others,” he said. Mr Rosaiah said the state government had envisaged linking of Godavari and Krishna in the state to save Godavari water from being let out into the sea. He agreed that there were differences of opinion on the issue and added that alternative ways could be explored for linking of rivers within the state.

In was in 1988 that the N.T. Rama Rao government tentatively started the inter-linking of rivers in the state by releasing Krishna waters from Pothireddypadu head regulator to Pennar Basin. The Krishna-Pennar rivers link was originally conceived during British rule.

There is also going to be a major link of Godavari and Krishna rivers through Polavaram project which is under construction. Mr Rosaiah can perhaps push his plans since Mr Ramesh had said the other day that the UPA government was not opposed to the inter-basin level river linking on a local basis. It was the former Prime Minister, Mr Atal Behari Vajpayee, who took the initiative to promote the ambitious national river linking project. The task force he deputed had said that if the rivers are interlinked around 160 million hectares of farm lands could be irrigated in the long run.

The task force had envisaged the project as involving a peninsular component and a Himalayan component. Under the peninsular component, a southern water grid was to be developed with 16 linkages and the Himalayan component involved conserving the flow of waters in the Ganga and the Brahmaputra and their tributaries.

In fact, while relinquishing power, Mr Vajpayee had requested Dr Manmohan Singh to continue with the river-linking project.

Fakes grab real victims’ share of aid

Oct. 8: Not just fund collectors, some of the “victims” in the relief camps too are bogus. And they are depriving the real sufferers of succour.
Several benami persons, including those who are financially very sound, have intruded into the nine camps in Vijayawada to grab the financial relief from both government and non-government organisations.
Many of them have enrolled their names as flood victims, preventing the real victims from getting the benefits.
In many of the camps, infighting among bogus and real victims is common. In fact, at the relief camp in Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru Bus Stand, there was a near stampede when some people came to donate food packets and blankets.
“Benami victims are intruding into the camps with bogus ration cards. Though we are the real sufferers, we don’t have ration cards as they were washed away in floods,” said Mr P. Shankara Rao.
The district administration, however, said it had given identity cards to the real victims for the
verification to ensure that bogus victims don’t claim relief. The officials have advised the real victims to alert the authorities of any bogus victims.

Rosaiah mum on TRS charges against YSR

Hyderabad
Oct. 8: The Chief Minister, Mr K. Rosaiah, on Thursday parried allegations of corruption made against the late chief minister Dr Y.S. Rajasekhar Reddy and his pet irrigation project, Jalayagnam by the TRS president, Mr K. Chandrasekhar Rao.
Mr Rosaiah said he would respond to the allegations after dealing with pressing issues.
It was left to the ministers, Mr D. Nagender, Mr P. Lakshmaiah and Mr D. Sridhar Babu, and the senior Congress leaders, Mr T. Jeevan Reddy and Mr G. Prakasa Rao, who were close to YSR.
The TRS chief had on Wednesday appealed to the Prime Minister, Dr Manmohan Singh, to order a CBI probe into Jalayagnam, alleging that the construction of projects illegally was responsible for the wide-scale damage.
Mr Rosaiah dismissed Mr Rao’s allegations about his administration’s negligence in flood management.
The irrigation minister, Mr Ponnala Laxmaiah, later challenged the TRS chief to prove his allegation that the floods was caused by human error and also due to the Pothireddypadu head regulator, which takes Srisailam water to Rayalaseema. Mr Laxmaiah said he was ready to face any punishment if guilty.
In response, Mr Chandrashekhar Rao, who is presently in Delhi, said he was ready for a debate to prove his allegation.
Responding to this, the TRS chief said in Delhi that he was accepting the challenge and was ready for a debate to prove his allegation. If proved wrong, he said, he is prepared to be hanged in public at the Public Gardens in Hyderabad.
Earlier, the TRS chief said that to ensure supplies to Pothireddypadu regulator and projects in Rayalseema, engineering officials had delayed the release of water, which caused flooding in Kurnool.

Head priest was reluctant to leave Mantralayam

Oct. 8: The pontiff of the Sri Madhvacharya Moola Mahasamsthana Raghavendra Swamy Mutt at Mantralayam Sri Suyateendra Teertha Swamy was reluctant to be airlifted from the mutt on the day Tungabhadra ravaged the town. He agreed only after 10 hours of persuasion by his disciples and the Karnataka Chief Minister, Mr B.S. Yeddyurappa.
Sri Suyateendra Teertha Swamy shared his experience with this newspaper.
He said: “It was quiet till the evening of October 1. However, the water levels started rising by the midnight. I took the Moola Rama deity box and along with 35 sishyas moved to the first floor. On October 2, the water level touched 16-18 feet in the main temple.”
The pontiff added, “I prayed to Lord Rama and Sri Guru Raghavenda Swamy to see that no life is lost.” However, the water level rose. “Even the banyan trees in the garden were uprooted. Looking at the scene, I could imagine ‘pralaya’ as described by sage Markandeya,” the pontiff said.
One devotee, Mr Subanna, called the Karnataka MP, Mr Anantha Kumar, and discussed the situation at the mutt and the need to airlift Swamiji.
Swamiji ensured all disciples and archakas got on board the chopper and only took the last chopper at 5.15 pm on October 2. He was airlifted along with the Moola Rama deities to Raichur. He conducted poojas for the Moola Rama deities on October 3 and 4 at Raichur Swamy. He returned to the mutt on October 5.
